–erythromycinoroneofthenewmacrolidescanbeusedifthereisapenicillinallergyorpenicillinresistance
–phenoxymethylpenicillinandflucloxacillinshouldbegivenifbetahaemolyticstreptococciareisolatedorsuspectedonclinicalevaluation
Steroid-antibioticcombinationsareeffectiveinclinicalpracticealthoughevidenceforsuperiorityinefficacyislacking.Theyshouldbeusedinshortcourses(typically1week)toreducetheriskofdrugresistanceorskinsensitisation
